“BUCHAREST: Shooting for Andrei Zincă’s first feature Puzzle for a Blind Man, which began on 21 July 2011, wrapped 14 August in Bucharest. Shooting took place on location and at Castel Film Studios (www.castelfilm.ro).
Initially written for an international cast, the adaptation of the Argentine author Mario Diament’s play Blind Date/ Cita a ciegas was eventually re-written for a Romanian setting. Director and screenwriter Andrei Zincă took the two love stories from the original Argentine play and move them to Romania. The film is a love story, a rara avis for contemporary Romanian cinema.
The cast includes Ioana Pavelescu, Adrian Titieni, Dan Nuţu, Skovrán Tünde, Cătălina Mustaţă and Rodica Mandache. Dan Alexandru is the DOP and Călin Papură the art director.
Puzzle for a Blind Man is produced by Vlad Păunescu and Castel Film Studios. The budget is 1.4 million euro.
The project is supported by the Romanian public television (www.tvr.ro), and also by McCann-Erickson (www.mccann.ro). It received a grant of €350,000 from the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro).
Zincă left Romania during the communist regime to work in South America and the United States, where he established himself as a well-known director of TV series. He returned to Bucharest in recent years as the director of La Urgenţă, a local ER-type TV series.
The film will be finished at the end of the year or early 2012. The premiere is set for spring 2012”.
